A Date with the Future
St Clair Technology Summit

When: Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at 6:30pm
Where: Hungarian Canadian Cultural Centre (HCCC)
Location: 840 St Clair Ave West, Toronto, ON M6C 1C1

The Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) on St Clair are firmly positioned to be technology leaders. The foundation is in place. The next step is to take full advantage of the technology already available and to learn about what is just around the corner.

To that end, NaberNet, the parent company of MyStClair.com and the developer of the innovative Bridgelin software platform is holding a technology summit which will:
  • demonstrate what is possible now
  • outline what the future holds

An open discussion will be a key aspect of this important event.

The following are asked to attend:
  • BIA Chairs
  • BIA Coordinators
  • BIA Board Members with an interest in Internet technology
  • Anyone the BIA feels should be involved in this event

In addition, interested member businesses and community members are more than welcome.

Please Note: This is NOT a technical seminar. Lack of familiarity with computers and the Internet should NOT be reason to stay away - in fact that is the best reason to attend.

This is for business people who want to see how they can use the most important technological advance in modern times to increase business for their BIAs and their member businesses.

The event is scheduled for Wed Dec 1 6:30 pm at the Hungarian House on St Clair W just east of Winona.

If you are unable to attend please ensure there is at least one person from your BIA attending.

This is one date you don't want to miss.

Our result: The Amiable Agent
You are creative, soulful, and everyone can count on you. You are encouraging, you support your colleagues, and you are happy to help out when necessary. You are very team focused, loyal, and you pay attention to detail. You however need to let loose, challenge yourself, speak up, and set yourself apart. Let the creative juices flow!

But we would like to be: The Business Baron
You are logical, rationale, and a strategy based planner. You look to the past for proof, you stick with the facts, and you rely on previous experiences before making a big decision. You use measurement and quantitative analysis to make operations as efficient as possible and you are sharp, quick, and look good in a suit. Are you in a committed relationship with Excel? Do you find yourself daydreaming about P&L’s? Stop basing your entire self worth on the number of hours you put in at work, take a vacation, grab a drink with your colleagues, relax!

And who you are: a d.school thinker or a b.school thinker? Take the quiz now!

Toronto, December 2009
Dear Friends:
On behalf of the Mennonite New Life Centre and our Newcomer Advocacy Committee, we would like to invite you to participate in our community forum "Refusing to Settle for Less: Newcomer Policy Recommendations to Overcome Poverty". This forum will be held on Saturday March 27th, 2010 from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm in our meeting space at 1774 Queen Street East.

As you know, the Mennonite New Life Centre is a vibrant, multicultural settlement agency for newcomers, with a vision for a city and province where people from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds participate fully in the social, economic and political life of Toronto and Ontario.

During the forum, we hope to engage a wide variety of stakeholders in dialogue regarding newcomer employment challenges and policy proposals, and to identify new ways of working together so that newcomers might contribute their skills and their ideas to this country. To facilitate this dialogue and action planning, we are planning four roundtable discussions around the themes of access to employment and political voice for newcomers:
  1. Employment Equity Legislation: a proposal to ensure equitable representation of diverse groups in the workplace.
  2. Paid Internships: an employer incentive strategy.
  3. Upcoming Municipal and Provincial Elections: opportunities and challenges for newcomer civic participation.
  4. Community organizing experiences: learning from grassroots newcomer initiatives
Your participation is key to the success of this forum. We look forward to hearing your experiences, ideas and proposals for improving access to fair and meaningful employment for newcomers and building strong and inclusive communities where immigrants and refugees participate fully in civic life. We look forward to your participation in our March 27th 2010 Forum. Please mark this date in your calendar!

Regards,
MNLCT and Newcomer Advocacy Committee
